LATE 18TH CENTURY GOLD MOUNTED OTTOMAN EMPIRE POWDER FLASK #9551

A superb and rare late 18th, early 19th century Ottoman Empire heart shaped powder flask possibly from Thrace, of wooden construction with carved panels with various religious inscriptions, mostly referring to God for victory, the gold sheet pinned with hundreds of gold pins, inlaid with roundels (similar to those found inlaid in Turkish miquelet gun stocks) set in stained  panels, the stopper and top of turned horn, old iron suspension ring and fittings to hold the stopper tether. Overall 9 inches by 4 inches by 4 inches. The work of a craftsman, There is a similar one in the Military Museum Istanbul  #9551eeo

Provenance: The Dne Jørgen Wilhelm Ammundsen (1846–1886) who worked as a ophthalmologist in Turkey in 1877-78.
