A cast Benin bronze belt mask fashioned as a Leopards head, these were traditionally worn by certain high ranking officials over a tie on their costume on the left hip, cast from a copper alloy in the lost wax technique, of hollowed form, the stylized leopard head with small pointed teeth and upturned whiskers in rayed formation on each cheek, the straight nose bisecting the almond-shaped eyes beneath the leaf-like ears, the whole decorated with incised circle motif; fine softly-worn surface. #7634
