19thC. INDONESIAN, SUMATRAN RENCONG DAGGER #10209A
A 19th century Indonesian, North Sumatran dagger from Aceh called a Rencong with a Hulu Meucangge style hilt. 9 inch (23cm) single edged slender hand forged blade, the hilt of horn , the wooden sheath carved from a single piece of wood with a slither of wood along the back edge secured by 1 brass band1 and is carved and decorated over the front. Provenance: Acquired by a Danish civil engineer who worked on bridge construction in the then Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) in the early 1900s. Inherited in the family to this day.
