19th century Afghan dagger or Choora from the Khyber pass area of Afghanistan with inlaid date, 10 inch "T" section razor sharp blade with a raised central rib along the top edge, the blade set in a iron bolster, all the surfaces of the metal work on the hilt inlaid with gold decoration and the scales of 2 pieces secured with domed rivets, the inlay on the blade shows 2 birds amongst branches and leaves. The top of the hilt inlaid with the Arabic date for 1711. Contained in a wooden sheath covered with brass sheet, the scabbard possibly later than 1711. Overall 15 inches. #9288mno
The date 1711 commemorates the time that the Afghans under Mir Wais captured Kandahar in 1711 and defeated successive forces sent against him by the Persian Army
