EARLY 19th CENTURY INDIAN SWORD, SABRE-BRIQUET #9776

An early 19th century, circa 1810 brass hilted Indian sword based on a Napoleonic period Sabre-Briquet, from a Maharaja's armoury in Rajasthan India, heavy 70cm curved steel blade with a deep fuller either side, cast brass ribbed hilt, no markings, contained in the original wooden sewn leather covered scabbard with a brass chape top, the bottom chape missing, the blade polished with traces of pitting, overall 87cm.   #9776myo

This is 1 of 9 Swords that I have from a Maharaja's armoury in Rajasthan India, they are based on the Napoleonic Sabre-Briquet, in 1767 the soldiers eppee was changed to a Sabre-Briquet and that pattern stayed until 1800, the new Sabre-Briquet, the year XI model (1803), the 11th year after the French Revolution, was the lighter shorter brass hilt curved blade version. This is very similar but heavier and 10 inches longer and formed part of the Maharaja's arsenal, possibly for the palace guards.
